Joshua Milanes, osteopath at Strive Osteopathy

About Joshua Milanes

I'm Joshua Milanes, the sports osteopath behind Strive Osteopathy, treating patients across our Coburg and Essendon clinics.

I got into osteopathy because it let me combine two things I care about: movement, and the difference you can make in someone's life through treatment and guidance. Not just a quick fix.

I've been in clinical practice for 9 years, graduating from RMIT University in 2017. Along the way I've worked in aged care, sat on the sidelines as a sports trainer for local clubs, and spent time around dance festivals. Different settings, different bodies, different ways things go wrong. That variety is exactly what shapes how I assess and treat now.

I enjoy working with people who actually want to get better. Not just have the pain taken away for a week, but who'll put in the treatment and training guidance to make it last.

My Approach to Treatment

Most pain doesn't sit still. It moves, refers, and hides its real cause somewhere other than where it hurts. If your lower back is the complaint, I'm checking your hips and thoracic spine before I call it done. If it's a headache, I'm looking at your neck.

Treatment generally runs in two stages. First, we get the pain under control: hands-on work to calm the irritated area and get some pain-free movement back. Once that's settled, we shift into stabilising and strengthening whatever let the problem develop in the first place, so it's less likely to come back in six weeks.

Most people notice a real shift within one to three sessions, though it depends entirely on what's going on and how long it's been building.

I have a particular interest in return-to-sport rehabilitation and postural, desk-related pain, but honestly, the same approach applies whichever brought you in.
